Annual Christmas Party – Another Great Time!

Posted by on January 28, 2016

1We at the River City Whisky Society hosted our annual Christmas Party in early January. (We found moving it to January allowed for greater attendance.) The rules for the annual party are simple: 1) Each member brings an unopened bottle of whisky. They let us know what they are bringing so we don’t get two of the same bottles. Some members even bring more than one. 2) Each member brings some type of food. The food is always great and there is plenty to go around. And 3) Each member brings guests because we love to share our fondness for whisky. Finally, the Society provides premium cigars.

Because of these rules the gatherings have always been a great success and this year was no different. Over 75 people attended and enjoyed some great whisky. We counted over 45 bottles with many of them being empty by the end of the night. (Thank you, Uber, for your service.) Of course the first one empty was, as in past years, the Balvenie 14 Year Old Caribbean Cask. The second bottle empty was the Midleton Very Rare. These are two great expressions that should be in your personal collection.

The venue this year truly added to the success. We met at the Elks Lodge in Creve Coeur (MO). This allowed cigar smoking in the adjacent room, rather than outside. There was plenty of room and the staff was very gracious.

Mark (the other #1) and I want to thank all the members and guests, that attended meetings in the last 12 months, for making 2015 another successful year for the River City Whisky Society. I can easily say that we have the largest, the most active and the overall BEST whisky society in a 500 mile radius.

Thank you again for a great year and we are looking forward to 2016!
