Monday evening, 6/30, I attended the “630 Day” event at Still 630 Distillery. There were a number of things going on including food prepared by chef Rick Lewis and the folks from Kaldi’s Coffee mixing a coffee cocktail using Rally Point Rye.
It was a warm evening so having the craft brewers of Alpha Brewing Company serving their beers was a great addition.
During the event owner Dave Weglarz released his Collaboration Spirit called Rally Point Maple Sunset. To make this spirit, Dave took his 16 month rye and finished it for another 8 months in an ex-Knob Creek barrel that was then used to age maple syrup…then given to Dave. This finished product was an unusual whiskey that I highly recommend. The dram starts out with the unmistakable taste of Rally Point Rye, but with a little sweetness added. And a little creaminess. The maple taste is only a hint at the beginning but is more pronounced at the end, on the back of your tongue.
Dave is doing a lot of great things with his distillery so make sure you stop by some time to have a chat and a dram with him. Still 630 is located at 1000 South 4th Street, St. Louis, MO 63104. His web site is www.still630.comĀ
Cheers,
