A Chilly Night with Ben Nevis

Posted by on January 9, 2010

My first taste of Ben Nevis was a 6 year old expression bottled in 1999 by Murry & McDavid. I was very impressed at how smooth it was for being so young. It quickly put me on the hunt for more.

My second bottle, and the one I am using to shake off the cold St. Louis weather this evening (it is currently 5 degrees out side), is 10 years old and bottled by Battlehill in 1998. This too is extremely smooth.

Regarding the taste, I do not favor a heavily peated scotch but I do find that the influence of peat adds favorably to the overall taste. Ben Nevis fits this bill almost perfectly. I say “almost” only because I still have hundreds of scotches to try….God willing.

I highly recommend Ben Neivs, at any age. This is a premium scotch with a “regular guy” price of about $40. Enjoy.
