Yeah I know, it’s been a long time since I posted. It has been a busy time, but I look to change that. RCWS had their first annual Christmas party and all the members, plus several guests came.
We have 13 registered members so the plan was for every member to do three things; Bring an sealed bottle of whisky, bring a friend, and bring a snack to share. We ended up having about 18, as some members brought two. I would give you a list of all the whisk(e)y we had, and the clear winners, but between the party and now, I lost the list. But what I do remember is the clear winner…The Balvenie 14 yr old Caribbean Cask, finished in a rum cask.
I ended up buying a bottle and here are my thoughts:
Great nose, rich and sweet. When I took the first sip I was hit with a creaminess. This is a very layered malt and after the creaminess I tasted honey, vanilla, and spicy fruit. The finish was long and soft.
Balvenie is one of my favorite malts, and they consistently put out fine products. There really isn’t one I don’t like. That said, this is my favorite Balvenie. The price isn’t too bad, about $55. Makes me really want to try the 17 year old Rum Cask that Balvenie had also put out.
