Doug (the other #1) and I took our sons (Nick 15 and Michael 13 respectively) to Chicago during springbreak. The trip was three fold: Food, Binny’s, and site seeing. We took the boys to the Willis (formally known as Sears) Tower, and the Science and Industry Museum. Each is a must see and plan on spending several hours at the museum, and don’t forget the submarine tour. Of course, being the scotch/whisky nuts that we are, we had to stop at Binny’s.
I bought a bottle of Signatory Cask Strength 11 year old Benrinnes. I will post about that later. We finished it in two nights. We are bad dad’s, because we finished the bottle on the second night, while teaching the boys how to gamble.
We also bought several bottles for the up-coming tastings, as well as some for ourselves. We also talked at length with Brett, the spirits manager, and his assistant, Joe. Each was knowledgeable, friendly, and eager to answer any questions we had. Binny’s on the South Loop is a must stop when you are in Chicago.
We also visited and had a tour of Koval, a boutique distillery in Chicago. Robert, the owner, was a great tour guide and walked us through how he makes his products. I bought a bottle of Raksi Millet Whiskey and can’t wait to try it and post it. I want to do a little research on Millet first, and if you are like me, you do not know what it is. Next year we are definitely going to WhiskyFest, which is held every April in Chicago.
