     Last night I had a couple drams from my first bottle of Arran Single Malt Scotch Whisky.

     Several members of the RCWS had a tasting with several non-members. We each brought a bottle of whisk(e)y priced between $40 and $50. The surprise of the night was a whiskey called J.J. Neukomm.

     A couple months ago the RCWS tried Russell’s Reserve 6 year old Rye. It did not get a very high rating…mostly because the rye was very strong. Richard, RCWS Member #8, decided to give the rye another shot and turned to one of his favorite distillers, Jim Beam.

    This whisky is unique in that it is from the southern most whisky distillery in the world. It was distilled in Dunedin, New Zealand shortly after which the distillery was closed. The casks were later bought by the New Zealand Malt Whisky Company and bottled.

     On February 22 The Wine & Cheese Place in Clayton (MO) hosted an open tasting of Irish whiskey. That is to say that this was not a formal presentation.      On Monday nights my wife and I watch “24”. We look forward to this event each week…and what better way to spend quality time with your spouse than watching television. It truly does say,” I Love You”.

       On Friday, February 12, seven members of the River City Whisky Society met for an “Under $30 Bottle” whisky tasting. We had a good variety that included three bottles of single malt scotch, two blends, two Irish whiskies and a Kentucky rye whiskey.

Maker’s Mark is coming out with a new bourbon. It is so new that is does not even have a name yet. Actually it’s not a NEW bourbon…it is a different finish on their current bourbon.
