October 22 was our last tasting and, as usual, it was a great time. Irish Whiskey was the theme and each of the whiskies were very good with the rankings being very close. In fact, there was only a 1 point difference between 1st and 2nd place. Additionally, with the exception of one bottle costing $42 the rest were under $35.
Here is how they ranked…along with a few notes from our tasters;
#5 Power’s Gold Reserve 12 Years Old:
Simple, Smooth, Somewhat “thin” compared to the rest, Light taste of caramel, Flat finish.
#4 Michael Collins Single Malt 10 Years Old:
Sweet on the tongue, Taste of almonds, Hint of peat at the finish, Better with a couple drops of water.
#3 Jameson’s Special Reserve 12 Years Old:
Full flavored whiskey, Lots of flavor, Very smooth finish, Sweet finish.
#2 Bushmills Black Bush (NAS):
Fruity, The sherry stands out, Ultra smooth finish, an Irish version of Glen Farclass, Easy to drink.
#1 Redbreast 12 Years Old;
Outstanding, smooth, tastes of toffee and caramel, Well balanced, Liquid candy bar, Sweet clean finish.
Thanks to all the tasters for a great evening!
Doug
