Review – Jameson Irish Whiskey

Posted by on June 26, 2011

Yesterday I bought a bottle of Jameson Irish Whiskey. I must confess that I have had many of the Jameson expressions, from the 12 year old to the Rare Vintage, but I have never had there “basic” whiskey. So it was about time.

One of the benefits of being in a whiskey club such as the River City Whisky Society is that you always have someone to have a drink with. I took my bottle of Jameson and headed to Robert’s (member #5) house. We sat on his patio with the bottle, two glasses and a bit of water.

The nose was somewhat unusual. It was not the typical food type bouquet. Not the typical citrus, vanilla, corn, etc. It was vastly different. It was more of a sea flavor…such as salt or seaweed.

The taste was pretty good. We found notes of vanilla, wood and caramel. Additionally we agree that the adding of water was a bad move. It was much better straight.

The finish was basic. Nothing dramatic.

Jameson Irish Whiskey is loved around the globe. It is a good basic Irish whiskey. It is not overpowering and is not going to “knock your socks off”. But it is still a good whiskey.
