So, I read the most recent issue of the Whiskey Advocate. There were reviews at the end and had a section about Bonded Whiskies.
I proceeded to Friar Tuck’s where I could find only one of the ranked libations they reviewed. Don’t laugh, it was a bottle of Old Grandad Bonded whiskey. I purchased it for a mere 16.95. Taking it, as I do, with an ice cube I was more than pleasantly surprised. It had heat, due to the 100 proof content. It was sweet and had a woody flavor that evolved as it finished on my tongue. For the price, I haven’t had any better. I’m anxious to try the highly touted Heaven Hill 6 year old bonded that was rated highest. But until I can find it, I’ll be satisfied sipping on the Old Grandad and know that I don’t have to spend a fortune to find a truly good whiskey.
