2011 Christmas Party

Posted by on January 3, 2012

RCWS had their 2nd annual Christmas Party and it was another success. RCWS has three rules for its members: Bring a full sealed bottle of whiskey, bring a snack, and bring a friend. This year we had close to 40 people join us.

This year members brought the following:

Balvenie 14 yr old Caribbean Cask Scotch

Highland Park 15 yr old Scotch

Bruichladich Torrey Pines Scotch

Hibiki 12 yr old Blend Japanese Whisky

J.J.Neukomm (a single malt distilled in St. Louis)

Crown Royal Black Canadian Whiskey

Willit Bourbon

Jefferson 10 year old Rye Whiskey

George T. Stagg 18 year old Bourbon

Compass Box Royal King Street Blended Scotch

Bushmills 10 yr old Irish Whiskey

Buffalo Trace Bourbon

Knob Creek Small Batch Bourbon

Aberour a’Bunadh Scotch

Chieftain’s 12 yr old Aultmore Scotch

Oban 14 yr old Scotch

Glenrothes 1994 Scotch

Carolina Moonshine

Ole Smoky Tennessee Moonshine

The clear winner was the Balvenie. So much a winner that the entire bottle was finished. Other favorites were (in order) Oban, Chieftain’s, Glenrothes, Hibiki, J.J. Neukomm, and George T. Stagg. The Moonshines were a hit, not so much for their quality, but everyone wanted to try some.

We did provide tasting notes with each bottle so the group could read about the whiskey they were trying. All the notes came from internet sources…..heck, three of them were tasting notes from this site. We did not get any tasting notes from the group, as we do at our regular tastings, because the party was more about camaraderie than tasting.

As said in our background, we are a regular bunch of guys who like to get together and try good whiskies. Of our guest who came, three decided to join the club bringing us up to a membership of 23. Not bad for word of mouth.
