Alcorn Cigars…A review

Posted by on February 6, 2011

On Friday, February 4th, Doug (Member #1) & I (#8) made our way to the grand opening of the pub at Alcorn Cigars at 8984 Watson Road, St. Louis, MO 63123. We planned on only staying for a short time, but were having such a good time, that turned into 3 hours. There was food, live music and a packed venue to go along with their newly opened pub portion.

The staff was welcoming and outgoing. We spoke with Shane, one of the owners and had a talk about our past activities pairing up good cigars with good whiskies. Jen & Angie were tending bar and minding the crowd, whilst Mary manned the cash registers. Kudos to all of them for making our time there most enjoyable.

We sampled fine cigars such as “1961”, Don Mateo & Kristoff-Ligero, while partaking of a Buffalo Trace whiskey and Samuel Adams Boston Lager. A talented fellow played guitar and sang from the catalogs of Willie Nelson, Janice Joplin, and Jim Croce among others.

The establishment has 5 tall bar tables with chairs and a lounge area with couches and chairs like a living room. The walls are lined with floor to ceiling humidors. It’s safe to say there are hundreds, if not thousands of the world’s finest cigars surrounding you. There were prizes given away every half hour (Doug took home a nice Buffalo Trace ball cap) and no shortage of folks to bore with our (uh hmm) extensive knowledge of whiskey and cigars. Upon arriving home, it’s become apparent that the clothes I wore will require extensive fumigation to remove the smell of cigar smoke. But it was all well worth it. I believe I can speak for Doug when I say we give Alcorn Cigars & Pub, two very enthusiastic “thumbs up”!
