NASCAR and Scotch

Posted by on April 24, 2010

Yes, I like NASCAR. I love to watch those cars go in circles for hours. But, I don’t have any tattoos, I don’t drink Busch beer and I have all my own teeth. I am not your typical NASCAR fan. Okay, Okay I am just kidding. Not all NASCAR fans are rednecks. But why would I write about auto racing on a whisky blog…?

Several of my friends and I bet on NASCAR. We each pick a driver and the first one to win the best of five races wins the bet. The winner gets the whisk(e)y of their choice…under $30. I just won this round and my choice was Glen Garioch (pronounced “geerie”) 8 year old single malt scotch.

For the price you will be hard pressed to find a better bottle. It is from the Scottish Highlands and carries with it a sweetness that is pleasing to the palate. With it’s hints of peat and warm aftertaste it should be on everyone’s shelf. Now, this is not a complex scotch and it is not going to win any awards. But, for only $23 the boys in the betting pool saved a couple bucks.
