Date Night

Posted by on February 23, 2010

On Monday nights my wife and I watch “24”. We look forward to this event each week…and what better way to spend quality time with your spouse than watching television. It truly does say,” I Love You”.

But there was a bit of sadness in the air. A sadness not even my wife could detect. The sadness began with the finishing of a bottle of Wild Scotsman Vatted Scotch Malt Whisky. This whisky is excellent. It is 15 years old and bottled at 46% alcohol.

Prior to buying this brand I did a little research and found the following statement on their company’s web site: Scotch Whisky that tastes like Scotch Whisky. No caramel finishes, watered down proof strengths, or chill filtration. It certainly does live up to this statement. There is a limited distribution so if you come across a bottle….grab it. You will not be disappointed. (Check their web site for sale locations: www.wildscotsman.com)

So, back to my evening with Jack Bauer (oh yeah…and my wife). As the last few drops fell from the bottle into the glass I was brought back to the time when I bought it. Mark had heard about a sale at Binny’s Beverage Depot in Chicago. A huge scotch sale with literally hundreds of brands between 20% and 75% off.

We each took the day off work and drove the five hours to the South Loop store.  90 minutes later we were on our way home with $1300 of scotch in tow. I called my wife from the road to tell her of my purchases so she could share in my joy. Since she is the one who pays the bills for our family her joy did not quite match mine. BUT, the members of the River City Whisky Society embraced our adventure.

The last drop of Wild Scotsman into that glass marked the last of the scotch purchased on that great trip to Chicago. Yes, I know you feel my sadness and understand my depression. But remember, the scotch was bought to drink, and drink it I did. Me, Jack Bauer and the Wild Scotman (oh yeah…and my wife)…what a night!
