High Dollar Night

Posted by on August 4, 2022

Happy Summer all! For the River City Whisky Society summer means High Dollar Night! Thats the night we spend quite a bit of cash on five bottles of whisky. Bottles that none of us would likely buy on our own.

In addition, this night is for members only. No, that does not mean we wear those jackets from the 80s. It simply means that this is the one meeting a year we do not invite guests. Membership has its privileges.

The members sampled the whisky, rated them as they compare to the others, and made tasting notes. This year the results were quite interesting. The fifth and first place whiskies were quite far apart in points but the fourth, third and second were all within 4 points. Below are the whiskies, the number of points they garnered and a few notes on each from the tasters.

A quick note, each taster ranked their least favorite with five points, the next with four points and so on. Giving their favorite one point. the points were added together to get their final score. The higher the points received, the lower the place.

FIFTH PLACE 125 POINTS
Laphroaig Single Malt Scotch, 28 yrs old, 44.4% ABV, $700

THIRD PLACE 111 POINTS

Notes: Amazing nose, Nose of caramel and honey, Perfect level of sweetness, Long finish, Not worth the money.

SECOND PLACE 110 POINTS
Redbreast Single Pot Still Irish Whiskey, 21 yrs old, 46% ABV, $400
Notes: Vanilla on the nose, Very buttery on the tongue, Smooth cherry finish.

FIRST PLACE 80 POINTS

Notes: Spice and raisins on the nose, Taste of cherry and raisins, Crazy burst of flavor, Taste of fruity spices, Long finish.

Thank YOU to everyone who attended and participated. Another great night!
